My name is Tanita Mc Carthy. I am the Head of Department for the Upper Primary (Grade 3-6) at Avalon Heights World Private School.
I grew up in Durban, South Africa. After finishing school, I studied at the University of South Africa and obtained my degree in Education. My main subjects included Psychology, Educational Themes, Professional Studies and English.
I have since done the Master 140 Hour TEFL Course and a SEND Diploma Course, with which I am a member of the International Alliance of Holistic Therapists.
I am currently studying towards my masters in Educational Leadership through the University of Roehampton in the UK.
My hobbies include reading, playing strategic board games and baking.
I am from the Beautiful Cape Town in South Africa. I have been living abroad for 7 years. I lived in Abu Dhabi and Dubai and before that I was a teacher in Bangkok Thailand.I have done my Bachelors in Education in Foundation Phase and also some English as a foreign language courses to help me understand how children learn a second language. I feel that I am never finished learning and will therefor try for as long as I can to continue my studies in making sure that each child has the best possible learning experience.

More about me: I am 25 years old, and moved to the United Arab Emirates in October 2016 from the United Kingdom, where I was born and have lived all of my life. I lived in a small city in England, called Leicester.
I have just over 7 years of experience working within Early Years using the EYFS curriculum. I am mainly based in KG2, last year i was a KG1 teacher which i enjoyed having the opportunity to learn different skills. I have worked in a number of different schools in the UK which has allowed me to collect a very broad depth of knowledge and experience. My name is Leándi van der Westhuizen, and I am excited to start my journey at Avalon Heights World School. I am from South-Africa, and have studied and worked there for a couple of years. I have a great passion for children, especially those with special needs and learning disabilities. I went to the University of Pretoria in South-Africa where I received my B.Ed degree, specializing in Art and Music.

Hello, I’m Charlotte and I’m originally from North West England.
I have lived and worked in the UAE for almost seven years and counting!
It was in Dubai back in 2013 that I began my journey as an early year’s teacher, starting out as an assistant at a world renowned American nursery.
After furthering my education as an early year’s practitioner, I moved to a private British nursery in Dubai. This is where I took on my first role as a lead teacher for FS1 level children.
In October 2017, I was delighted to become part of the Avalon Heights Ajman team. The warm and welcoming staff, have made my transition one of ease and inspiration. It is the sisterhood of our team, and love for what we do which makes Avalon special.
